CHSL girls begin quest for basketball championship

DETROIT — The Catholic League girls basketball teams begin their quest this weekend to determine their champions.

Here are the quarterfinals pairings:

On Friday (Feb. 15), two A-B Division contests will be played, starting at 5:30 p.m. pitting Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard against Warren Regina, followed at 7 p.m. by Dearborn Divine Child taking on Macomb Lutheran North. Both games will be played at Riverview Gabriel Richard.

Bloomfield Hills Marian and Farmington Hills Mercy both drew first-round byes and will play the winners Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Novi Detroit Catholic Central.

Saturday (Feb. 16) has a full slate of four C-D Division games, all played at Mercy:

  • 12 Noon, Chesterfield Austin Catholic vs. Madison Heights Bishop Foley.
  • 1:30 p.m., Royal Oak Shrine vs. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood.
  • 3 p.m., Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes vs. Riverview Gabriel Richard.
  • 5:30 p.m., Wixom St. Catherine of Wixom vs. Clarkston Everest Collegiate.

The winners will play Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Regina.

The ultimate goal is the championship game Saturday, Feb. 23, at Detroit Mercy Calihan Hall. The defending champs are Marian in A-B and Shrine in C-D.
