May They Rest in Peace: Fr. Bernard L. Pilarski

Fr. Bernard L. Pilarski passed from this life on May 4, 2019, at the age of 86.

Fr. Pilarski was born Aug. 13, 1932, in Naklo Slaskie, Poland, and ordained a priest on June 24, 1956, at the Cathedral of Katowice, Poland. He studied under Pope St. John Paul II while the future pope was a professor in Krakow, Poland.

Fr. Pilarski will lie in repose at St. Richard Parish, 35851 Cherry Hill Road, Westland, Michigan 48186 on Friday, May 17, from 10 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Fr. Pilarski was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Detroit in 1982.

Fr. Pilarski served as parochial vicar at Transfiguration Parish, Detroit (1976-79); and St. Leonard of Port Maurice Parish, Warren (1980-82). He also served as chaplain at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital, Garden City (1982-2010); and Oakwood Annapolis Hospital, Wayne (1982-2010).

Visitation will take place at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 980 N. Newburgh Road, Westland, Michigan 48185 on Thursday, May 16, from 3-8 p.m., with the rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.

Fr. Pilarski was predeceased by his parents, Piotr and Paulina Pilarski, and by his siblings, Jozef Pilarski, Stanislaw Pilarski, Rozalia Przykuta, Teresa Mateja, and Malgorzata Treffon.  He is survived by his siblings, Celina Foltyn, Elzbieta Witek, and Marysia Pilarski.
